Eczema has plagued me for many years now.
While it has gotten better over time, it is still a part of my every day life. While I have not seen an Ayurvedic practitioner for the condition (yet), I did manage to take a trip into my local Elephant Pharmacy in Walnut Creek, CA.
There, I spoke with a woman who was their Ayurvedic expert. She gave me some interesting information.
She told me that Eczema typically comes from bad digestion, and encouraged me to try herbs as well as digestive enzymes.
The herbs she sold me were called “Trikatu” and “Triphala”. The Trikatu is to be taken before meals with water, and the Triphala is to be used as a tea in the morning and evening.
I will keep you updated as to wether or not this works for me. For those of you with eczema, I understand your pain, and hope that this information will help.
Please consult a physician before trying any treatment. This post is for informational purposes only, and is not intended to diagnose or treat any condition.

Ayurvedic herbs are good medicines from the ancient age. They do not have any side effects. Modern physicians are saying ayurveda is the best way of curing any diseases. Besides this, herbs are inexpensive.
If we have plenty of green vegetables and fruits then it will help to cure eczema.
I agree, Victoria. I’ll be seeing an Ayurvedic practitioner later this month. I’ll let you know how it turns out!
Thanks for your comment.

Hi Samant!
I’m so sorry to hear about your baby. I know it can be really miserable. My son (10 months old), has eczema as well. However, there is hope. Baby eczema can be different from adult eczema. Many babies will grow out of it.
I will let you know what the doctor says, but in the mean time, you want to give your baby some relief. There are two oils which I have found very helpful in relieving the discomfort of eczema. Olive oil (the kind you keep in your kitchen cabinet for cooking), and high oleic safflower oil (purchase at your local health food store).
Other things to try:
Purchase a filter for your bath/shower that will remove the chlorine in the water which is very drying to the skin. You can purchase these at your local home improvement store or hardware store.
Never bathe your baby in hot or cold water. Tepid or room temperature is best as it will aggravate your babies skin the least. If you must heat the room for your baby’s comfort, do so with steam from a running hot shower, but keep the bath water luke warm.
Also, if the skin is very red and inflamed, you can steep chamomile flowers (you can purchase these very inexpensively at a local health food store) in a pot of boiling water, and then add this to a tepid bath, making sure not to get the bath water to hot.
I hope this helps. While these suggestions are not specifically Ayurvedic, they are solutions that help me and my baby.
Take care and good luck!
Tiffany
